WCC Public Education - Other Initiatives

The Public Education Extension Officer also provides other art education opportunities.

A) G.E.M.FEST (Galleries, Educators and Museums) is held on four Wednesdays in the Fall and Spring at local Brantford schools. Presenters from local Galleries and Museums, along with individual artists from the Brantford Cultural Network take their art and cultural knowledge into the schools for a day of fun-filled activities. Students have a great time creating art. To learn more about how to arrange G.E.M.Fest at your school or if you are an artist who wants to work with students contact the Woodland Cultural Centre’s Public Education Extension Officer for more details.
Next G.E.M.FEST: Wednesday, April 5, 12, 19, (April 26, booked), 2006.

B) ARTS ACCESS 2005 - 2008 The Public Education Extension Officer is participating in the organization of the Woodland Cultural Centre’s Arts Access Project. This initiative is a three year collaborative provincial project with the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Thunder Bay Art Gallery and another Art Gallery (TBD). Sponsors for the project include the Ontario Trillium Foundation, the Virtual Museum of Canada, and the Salamander Foundation.

The Woodland Cultural Centre will host 515 art workshops in their support communities at- Six Nations-Ohsweken, ON, Wahta Mohawks – Bala, ON, Tyendinaga – Belleville, ON and in the local Brantford area. Participants of all ages will explore their local identities and the future of their communities by working in Galleries, Schools, Community Centre’s, Festivals and Public Spaces.

Individual and collaborative responses to the project will result in Exhibitions, Theatre Projects, Community Murals and New Curriculum. The projects will be interconnected and shared in Collection X, an eclectic citizen-generated on-line archive that brings together images, oral narrative and art works by community participants in all four regions with the collections of Art Galleries and other Public Institutions.

If you would like more information on this exciting endeavor please contact the Public Education Extension Officer.
