Annual Corn Soup Cook-Off, November 19 2016!

Posted 16/10/11 in EVENTS

It's everyone's favourite time of year again - that's right, it is time for the Woodland Cultural Centre's Annual Corn Soup Cook-off!  The cook-off returns to the Centre on Saturday November 19, 2016 at 5:00 PM.  Once again the Woodland Cultural Centre is happy to partner with the De dwa da dehs nye>s Aboriginal Health Centre in presenting this favourite community event for all ages.

If you have ever been told you make the world's best corn soup then this contest is for you; and if you have enjoy eating the best corn soup then this event is also for you.  Monetary prizes will be awarded to first, second, and third places as voted on by a knowledgeable audience of experienced corn soup eaters.

Competitors can register to enter by calling the Woodland Cultural Centre [519-759-2650, extension 223] by November 15, 2016.  On the evening of the competition please drop off your corn soup [in a slow cooker, electric roaster, or similar appliance] at 4:00 PM to the museum - the first 10 registrants to bring in their corn soup will receive a $25.00 grocery gift certificate provided by the Aboriginal Health Centre.  Each contestant will need to provide approximately 10 quarts (a large pot) of corn soup for the event.  It is the decision of each competitor whether they wish to lye their own corm or purchase lyed corn - whatever you think tastes best.  Traditional corn soup or dried corn soup are both welcome to enter.

If you enjoy eating corn soup, or have the desire to try this local delicacy, plan to come out on November 19, 2016 at 5:00 PM.  For the low cost of $5.00 per person you will receive either a Woodland Cultural Centre [We ordered new mugs this year!] or Aboriginal Health Centre mug, and an official ballot.  Taste Testers will then proceed to sample all the entries [perhaps, twice], fill out, and submit their ballot so we can declare the BEST CORN SOUP IN THE WORLD.  The mug is your's to keep.

The motto for this event is:  ARRIVE HUNGRY AND LEAVE FULL!
