Annual Corn Soup Cook-Off Coming October 18th, 2014

Posted 14/09/10 in EVENTS

The annual Corn Soup Cook-Off is returning to the Woodland Cultural Centre on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at 5:00 PM.  The Centre is thrilled to welcome back this yearly event celebrating our national dish and local corn soup aficionados - you will recall the white corn shortage of 2013 derailed last year's cook-off.

If you make some impressive corn soup then please plan to enter the cook off.  Monetary prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third place as voted on by a knowledgeable audience of corn soup tasters.  Competitors can register to enter by calling the Woodland Cultural Centre (519) 759-2650, extension 226 by October 16, 2014.  On the evening of the competition please drop off your corn soup at 4:00 PM at the museum so the competition arena can be set up.  Each contestant will need to provided approximately 10 quarts (a large pot full) of corn soup for the event.  It is the decision of each contestant whether they wish to lye their own corn or buy lyed corn - whatever you think tastes best.  Traditional corn soup or dried corn soup are both welcome to enter.

If you enjoy eating corn soup or have never tried this local delicacy, plan to come out on October 18, 2014 at 5:00 PM.  For the low price of $5.00 per person, you will receive a Woodland Cultural Centre mug (your's to keep) and an official ballot in order to vote for your pick of the best corn soup in North America (and dare we suggest the World).

Arrive hungry and leave full!
