Join us August 8 at 7PM for opening reception of KENT MONKMAN.

Kent Monkman is an artist of Cree ancestry who works in a variety of media including painting, film/video, performance and installation. Monkman has exhibited widely within Canada, and is well represented in numerous private and public collections.

Enjoy the works of one of the most proflic practicing artists today.  Featured paintings, video, and installation pieces challenge the national conceptualizations of Canadiana and the invented mythos surrounding the histories of First Nations people.

The artist Kent Monkman’s work challenges long standing conceptions and revered popular notions of accepted historical narratives and identity. Monkman’s art contests the romanticized notions of First Nations iconography within the greater western popular culture.

Monkman continues to challenge preconceived notions of the “sacred” whether it be related to notions of nationhood, religion, art, or sexuality.

We are extremely excited to be presenting these works within our gallery spaces.  This exhibition runs from August 8 – December 20, 2014.
