The Woodland Cultural Centre is excited to present the 39th annual First Nations Art exhibition.  Please join us May 9 at 7PM for light refreshments and live musical performance by Arthur Renwick.

First Nations Art 2014 exhibits a total of thirty artists with over fifty works of contemporary art.  These Creations include painting, photography, beadwork, pottery, sculpture, and various mixed media installations.

For the first time in its inception First Nations Art will also highlight the work of a solo artist to run congruent with the exhibition.  This years selection for 2014 is Tracey-Mae Chambers. Her solo exhibition entitled ‘about eve’ is a visual narrative, addressing female body image and the state of women everywhere.  Her exhibition includes 40+ torso sculptures of volunteers who lent their shape to the project and each sculpture is as different as the women they represent.  There are also paintings depicting women which address societies idea of the ‘perfect’ women and the variety of shapes that involves.  The centre of the exhibition is a full size Colonial dress sculpture constructed from paper.  Tracey-Mae is an emerging artist with three years showing throughout Ontario as well as several art residencies and was mentored by both Christi Belcourt and Linda Lundstrom.

First Nations Art is one of the Woodland Cultural Centre's most highly anticipated annual events.  These works will be on display from May 9 - July 14, 2014.
