Shadow Puppets

Shadow puppetry is an ancient form of storytelling that has been used in many Asian countries. It is simply cut-out figures that are held between a source of light and a translucent screen.

I have developed a workshop that is based on the art of shadow puppetry, combined with the teachings of traditional Haudenosaunee stories.
Participants not only learn the teachings of the story but the creation of the puppets and the art of storytelling as they visual bring the story to life.
Traditional symbols and pictography are used and bring greater meaning to many of our other art forms such as pottery, jewelry and beadwork.
This workshop ends with a performance that completes the circle of learning.

Shadow Puppet performances of the Creation Story has been presented at some Brantford elementary schools, as well as education workshops.  This summer Woodland Cultural Centre held a summer workshop for youth to create the puppets of Creation Story and performed at the Founders Cup Opening Ceremonies.
