Curriculum Writer

Start Date: September 26

End Date: December 1, 2016

The Woodland Cultural Centre is seeking one highly motivated individual to create the Mohawk Institute Residential School curriculum units for Grades Kindergarten to Grade 12, as well as create the Pre-Visit and Post-Visit lesson plans.  The Curriculum Writer assumes responsibility for the creation of the curriculum units and pre-visit and post-visit lesson plans in relation to the Ontario Curriculum.  The Curriculum Writer will be working in conjunction with the Museum Director and Executive Director and other related staff members to complete the duties.

Basic Job Description:

  • Research history of Mohawk Institute Residential School and other Residential Schools across Canada
  • Develop curriculum units on Residential Schools for grades Kindergarten - Grade 12 using the Ontario Curriculum as a guideline
  • Create lesson plans/activities for pre-visit packages with a focus on history, empathy and family relationships
  • Create lesson plans/activities for post-visit packages on emotional intelligence and reconciliation

​Qualifications:

  • ​Must possess a post-secondary degree in Education and with 3-5 years related work experience
  • Must have demonstrated track record of creating curriculum/pre-post education lesson plans
  • Must have strong communication skills and highly organized
  • Must have a valid driver's license and vehicle

​Artistic Associate
 
Start Date:  September 26, 2016
 
End Date:  March 31, 2017
 
​Job Duties:
  • ​Assist the Artistic Director with the development of arts progrmaming including: exhibitions, workshops, performances and events
  • Attend artistic events when requested
  • Follow Woodland personnel policies and museum policies
  • Interact with the public in a professional and courteous manner
  • Liaison with artists when necessary
  • Generate artist contracts
  • Day-to-day office administration

Qualifications:

  • College Diploma in Creative Arts, Arts Administration or Bachelor's Degree in Visual and/or Performing Arts
  • Interest in contemporary First Nations visual and performing arts
  • Knowledge of computer softare and various programs (Windows Office Suite and Adobe Photoshop)
  • Photography skills including ability to use a DSLR camera
  • Good organizational skills, and willing to learn in an office environment
  • Must be a youth between the ages of 15-30 inclusive who are either unemployed or underemployed and are looking to gain work experience.  Please note, applicant cannot be in school

 ​Job Duties:
  • ​Assist Museum with program delivery
  • Follow Woodland Personnel Policies and Museum Policies
  • Data entry into the museum system
  • Day-to-day office administration
  • Filing of Museum records

​Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of computer software and various programs
  • Good organizational skills and willing to learn in an office environment
  • Research skills would be considered an asset
  • Effective verbal and listening communication skills
  • Youth between the ages of 15-30 inclusive who are either unemployed or underemployed and are looking to gain work experience.  Please note, applicant cannot be in school.
