Location:        Woodland Cultural Centre, 184 Mohawk Street, Brantford, ON
Position:         Artistic Director
Hours:            37.5 hours per week
Salary range: $35,000 – $45,000/per annum*
Contract Date: November 8, 2016 – May 8, 2017*
Closing Date: November 4, 2016 by 4PM

*This position is a six month term with potential to include an additional six month extension of the contract.

The Woodland Cultural Centre is seeking an Artistic Director who creates, develops and coordinates artistic exhibitions, events and public programming at Woodland Cultural Centre and with other partner institutions. 

Develops visual arts exhibition content, events and public programming. Determines length of exhibitions, programming and appropriate facilities, schedule and staffing requirements.  Researches and identifies key contacts and organizations which could assist the Centre in meeting cultural and special interest programming objectives.  Attends outside events to develop and maintain contacts.  Is responsible for determining budgets necessary to produce exhibitions and public programming, considering both revenue generating projects as well as expenditures, which is then submitted to Executive Director for approval.  Hires artists and negotiates contract conditions with them.  Writes contracts and submits purchase orders to finance.  Develops fundraising proposals, grants and researches and develops funding opportunities as it relates to the artistic programming.  Carries out final reports for all arts-based fundraising initiatives. Liaises with the Centre’s marketing firm to ensure accuracy and appropriateness of publicity and marketing strategies for programming. 


Basic Qualifications:

A formalized training and/or degree in visual arts, arts administration, or cultural resource management from a recognized post-secondary institution and five-years’ experience in artistic programming, curatorial work or community arts.
Creativity and imagination are required in developing new programming ideas.
Is proficient in all aspects of management of organization and supervision of staff.
International contacts in arts and culture.
Have experience and knowledge of Contemporary First Nations Art in all disciplines.
Possesses experience with fundraising, promotion and an excellent understanding of budgeting is required.
Has an above average ability to communicate effectively, both written and orally.
Must be bondable.
Must have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record.


Preference will be given to applicants of First Nations ancestry.
